Annapurna Trekking

Annapurna is a massif in the Himalayan range with its highest peak, Annapurna I (8,090 m) ranked as the 10th highest mountain in the world. The name ‘Annapurna’ is derived from Sanskrit meaning ‘plenty of crops’ or good harvest. The mountain is embodiment of mother goddess Annapurna. The area of 7,629 sq. km. surrounding Annapurna massif has been protected as Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) since 1986. Annapurna region is world renowned for some its unique features: 1) Deepest gorge in the world wedged between Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m). 2) Fossil valley as a reminiscence of Tethys sea dating back to 60 million years. 3) Tilicho Lake (4,919 m), the lake at the highest point in the world. 3) World’s largest Rhododendron forest. 5) The lost Tibetan kingdom of Mustang featured in book ‘1,000 places to see before you die’ The unique natural and cultural diversity have made Annapurna Trekking the most popular in Nepal.
