Annapurna is a massif in the Himalayan range with its highest peak, Annapurna I (8,090 m) ranked as the 10th highest mountain in the world. The name ‘Annapurna’ is derived from Sanskrit meaning ‘plenty of crops’ or good harvest. The mountain is embodiment of mother goddess Annapurna. The area of 7,629 sq. km. surrounding Annapurna massif has been protected as Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) since 1986.
