The trekking of three passes is the best route that avoid the crowd on the main trail to Everest base camp. The trail goes off the commercial lodge settlements traversing scenic high passes and still visits the main destinations of Gokyo Lake and Everest base camp. Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La are all about 5,000 m giving you more options of adventure and panoramic view.  

The Everest three high pass trek is the most adventurous trek that could be done based on teahouses. The trek includes climb and exploration of seven destinations at the range of 5,000 m. This is a complete Everest trek that explores all four valleys of Everest national park – Thame, Gokyo, Khumbu and Imja crossing over three passes Renjo La (5,388 m), Cho La (5,380) and Kongma La (5,535 m). You will come to several vantage points from where you can see 4 out of the 10 highest mountains in the world. The trek is strenuous and is suitable for more ambitious trekker with previous experience and strong determination.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01:Arrive Kathmandu Our represent will come to Kathmandu airport for pick up as per the flight details you have given. After meeting and greeting drive to the hotel. You can do a short familiarization walk in the evening.
  • Day 02:An easy day in Kathmandu This is a day to get rid of jet-lag and do the last preparation before you fly to Lukla. A guided sightseeing of Kathmandu is a good transition to the local culture. Kathmandu is like melting pot of 125 ethnic groups from across the country.
  • Day 03:Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding - 4 hrs / 2750 m We will drive to the airport to catch early flight to Lukla. The 35 mints flight is the most spectacular and exciting with view of almost half of the Nepalese Himalayan range. On arrival at Lukla, our porters will take care of the luggage, adjust it to be carried on their back and finally the walking begins. The trail winds toward north with short ups and downs crossing streams on suspension bridges. Phakding is small Sherpa village settlement along the Dhud Koshi river.
  • Day 04:Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 6 hrs) On the day we enter the Sagarmatha (Everest National park) and climb to Namche Bazaar. The trail follows upstream Dhud Koshi river crossing it several times on suspension bridge. First part of the trek is pretty much leveled with only short ups and downs until it comes to the confluence with Bhote Koshi river. At the point we cross the river on one of the highest suspension bridge and start climbing steeply to Namche bazaar. As we climb we will have our first view of Mt Everest and Tawache. Namche is center for village merchandise with Saturday market, Tibetan market and now a famous tourist hub.
  • Day 05:Rest day for acclimatization The altitude and ambiance of Namche bazaar is perfect for trekker's first acclimatization stop. You can walk to the ridge top where there is national park head quarter for the view of Mt Everest and other mountains like Amadablam, Thamsherku, Twache and others. Later on a day, we will hike to Shyangboche to stay active and adopt with higher altitude.
  • Day 06:Trek to Thame - 4 hrs / 3,800 m The trail to Thame, basically follows contour without much of ups and downs. Thame is the charming Sherpa village along the Dhud Koshi River.
  • Day 07:Trek to Lumde - 5 hrs / 4,137 m The trail from Thame climbs to the pasture at 4,137 m. The view of Kongde peak and Pachermo peak. There are only basic teahouses but the feeling of being at such an isolated place is great.
  • Day 08:Cross Renjo La pass (5,465 m) and trek down to Gokyo Lake - 8 hrs / 4,800 m Follow the beaten trail to the Renjo La pass used by the Sherpa Shepherds to cross to Gokyo valley. The trail gets more treacherous and challenging as we go higher. The last 150 m is like scree and rockery with snow most of the year. From the Renjo La pass one can get the far reaching view of the snow peaks and deep valleys with of the Mt Everest. The trail then climbs steeply down to the Gokyo lake.
  • Day 09:Extra day in Gokyo - Explore the 5th Lake A day in Gokyo will give you ample opportunities to enjoy the scenery and do side hikes to see the Choyou.
  • Day 10:Hike to Gokyo Ri and trek to Thangnak - 3 hrs / 4750m In the morning, climb one more time to Gokyo Ri peak for the phantasmagoria of lights over the snow peaks and dramatic valleys. Later walk down to the small teahouse settlement of Thangnak. This is a base before we climb the secon high pass in this trek.
  • Day 11:Cross Chola pass (5,367 m) and Dzongla - 7 hrs /4,830 m Trek to Dzongla via Chola Pass (5367m, 6-7 hours). This is another adventurous as well as rewarding day crossing the scenic pass. that
  • Day 12:Trek to Labuche - 6 hrs / 4,900 m After an strenuous climb over the Chola pass, we will have an easy day going to Labuche. One can also go all the way to Gorekshep if you are well acclimatized. The trail at first climbs the rockery and then follows the glacial moraine to a pasture with teahouses.
  • Day 13:Trek to Gorekshep - 3 hrs / 5,100 m and explore Everest base camp - 5 hrs / 5,300 m Explore the Everest base camp in the morning and then climb the Kalapatter in the evening.
  • Day 14:Climb Kalaphatter - 5,550 m and trek back to Labuche Depending upon the weather and your interest, you can do another climb to the Kalaphatter peak for another glimpse of the mountains and Everest base camp. Later trek back to Labuche.
  • Day 15:Cross Kongma La pass (4,750 m) and trek to Chhukung - 7 hrs Cross Kongma La pass (4,750 m) and trek to Chhukung - 7 hrs
  • Day 16:Trek back to Tengboche - 6 hrs Trek back to Tengboche monastery
  • Day 17:Trek down to Manjo - 7 hrs Trek down to Manjo
  • Day 18:Trek back to Lukla - 5 hrs Trek back to Lukla
  • Day 19:Fly back to Kathmandu Fly back to Kathmandu
  • Day 20:Drive to the airport for final departure. Drive to the airport for final departure
